Projects

The research projects presented on TrIBES are united by a shared interest in the historical interpretation of contemporary social transformations. Rather than focusing on isolated events or institutions, they investigate the long-term cultural, social and political processes through which new forms of identity, community, belonging and collective meaning emerge.

The projects explore how concepts, discourses and social practices evolve over time and seek to uncover the historical dynamics underlying contemporary phenomena. Particular attention is devoted to the emergence of new cultural trends, the diffusion of practices from the social periphery into the mainstream, and the historical conditions through which new interpretative frameworks, collective identities and political languages take shape.

Their common theoretical point of reference is the Historical Trend Research (HTR). This approach understands trends not as instruments for prediction but as hermeneutic tools for interpreting social change. From this perspective, cultural innovations, media developments, political discourses and transformations of everyday practices are analysed as historical indicators of broader processes reshaping contemporary society.

Methodologically, the projects combine historical semantics, discourse analysis, cultural and intellectual history, historical sociology and, increasingly, digital methods and AI-assisted research. Their aim is to connect diverse empirical observations and interpret their historical significance within wider patterns of social and cultural transformation.

TrIBES is conceived as an open research platform. It showcases both ongoing and completed projects conducted by individual scholars, research groups and academic institutions across different national and international contexts. Although these projects are supported by a variety of universities, research centres and funding bodies, they share a common commitment to advancing historically informed interpretations of the present through innovative theoretical and methodological perspectives.

Projekte
