Writing for TrIBES
The preferred style combines the analytical depth of the historical essay with the accessibility of high-quality cultural journalism. Articles should be conceptually precise, historically informed and clearly written, avoiding unnecessary jargon without sacrificing analytical complexity.
The preferred length of a contribution is approximately 3–5 pages (roughly 1,500–2,500 words). Longer essays may occasionally be considered after consultation with the editorial board when justified by the subject.
As an online publication, TrIBES combines editorial flexibility with academic standards. Authors may therefore adopt the citation system most appropriate for their contribution. Hyperlinks may be incorporated directly into the text whenever they facilitate access to digital resources, institutional websites, archival collections or previous publications. Traditional footnotes are equally welcome and are particularly useful for bibliographical references, methodological clarifications, archival citations or complementary observations that would otherwise interrupt the flow of the main text. Short bibliographies at the end of the article may also be included whenever appropriate.
No specific citation style is required. Consistency and readability are considered more important than adherence to a particular referencing system.
Visual material including photographs, historical images, illustrations, diagrams or screenshots is encouraged whenever it contributes meaningfully to the argument. Authors are responsible for ensuring that copyright permissions have been obtained where necessary and that appropriate image credits are provided.
Editorial Process
All submissions are discussed by the editorial board before publication. The editorial process is conceived as a collaborative dialogue. Authors may therefore receive suggestions concerning the historical framing of the topic, the overall structure of the argument, conceptual clarity, stylistic refinement and readability.
Editorial interventions are intended to strengthen the analytical quality of the contribution while fully preserving the author’s voice and intellectual responsibility.
What We Look For
TrIBES particularly welcomes contributions capable of historicizing contemporary phenomena, connecting individual cases with broader historical transformations, analysing concepts and political languages, investigating identities and communities, reconstructing semantic change and exploring emerging cultural practices through historically informed interpretation.
Conversely, the platform is generally less interested in purely descriptive book reviews, journalistic summaries, opinion pieces, chronologies without interpretation, literature reviews lacking an original analytical perspective or texts whose primary purpose is normative or activist.
Contact
The editorial board welcomes proposals at every stage of development. Authors are encouraged to get in touch not only with completed manuscripts but also with preliminary ideas, abstracts or project proposals. TrIBES is conceived as a collaborative editorial space in which historical interpretation develops through dialogue, constructive feedback and shared intellectual curiosity.
Prospective contributors are also welcome to discuss potential topics before starting to write. We are happy to advise on the suitability of a subject, its historical framing and its adaptation to the editorial profile of the blog.
In quanto piattaforma digitale, TrIBES coniuga flessibilità editoriale e standard scientifici.
